Ode (Celebration) Poem
The poem needs plenty of concrete noun images. Instead of naming your emotions or feelings, attempt to lead the reader to understand the emotions using similes or metaphors.

2. Include at least 4 metaphors/similes.
3. There should be one or more images(s) per line.

Advice Poem

Lyric (Advice) Poem
The key to the advice poem is to choose a speaker to give advice to someone in the form of a poem.
Read “Mother to Son”(193) and “Speech to the Young”(195)
Directions
Choose a speaker.
Choose an audience.
Decide on the theme (message or advice).
The length should be 10-30 lines, 3+ stanzas
Look to include frequent examples of sound devices and figurative language
The final copy must be typed or written neatly in black or blue ink.
